Alan Souders — Law Group in St Anacortes, WA
 

Alan R. Souders Attorney and Professional Engineer

Alan began practicing law in Anacortes in 1997, following his career in the Navy's Civil Engineering Corps and receiving his law degree with honors from the University of Washington. Being an engineer and the son of a building contractor and inspector, he chose to practice in the areas of construction, contracts, property and business law. He began practicing estate planning, trust, and probate law after helping several family members and friends. Alan has a masters in electrical engineering and B.A. in sociology. He is licensed as a professional engineer in Washington and Colorado. During his Navy career he was in charge of the on-site construction of Naval Station Everett and served as the Public Works Officer at Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island. As an attorney, he is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Alan is experienced in litigation, mediation, and arbitration, and has represented clients in both Washington State and federal courts. He has served as arbitrator for various disputes including construction and business cases.
 
 
 
Michelle Mance — Law Group in St Anacortes, WA
 

Michelle N. Mance, Attorney at Law

Michelle joined the firm in 2015 after graduating with honors from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California. During law school, Michelle served as the Chief Notes Editor of the Thomas Jefferson Law Review and interned for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California, and worked in chambers with Federal District Court Judge Karen S. Crawford. Prior to law school, Michelle spent several years as a police officer in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Michelle has a B.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Michelle has moved to different parts of the country as a Navy spouse and is very happy to have settled in the Anacortes area.
 
 
 
Thomas Benner — Law Group in St Anacortes, WA
 

Thomas D. Benner, Attorney at Law

Tom had his own law practice in Central Washington for over 30 years before moving to Skagit County in 2015. Following graduation from the Gonzaga University School of Law, Tom joined the Okanogan Prosecutor’s office, tried cases in District and Superior Court, and appeared before the Court of Appeals. In 1981, he opened his own law office in Brewster, Washington where he represented clients in both civil and criminal cases. He is particularly experienced in property, business, and insurance law. Through extensive travel in Latin America he gained proficiency in Spanish.
 
 

Staff

Kathryn Souders is the business and case manager for the law firm, and provides paralegal support for litigation, construction, property, and environmental law. She graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawaii in 1985. She spent twenty years managing environmental programs for the Navy in the Pacific Northwest, first at NAS Whidbey and then as the Navy’s East Puget Sound Environmental Director. Experienced in project and business management, she has used various business methodologies and project management concepts such as AGILE and LEAN to help the legal team manage in a busy and dynamic environment.
Julia James joined the Souders Law Group in 2011 as our paralegal for probates, estate planning, property, business, and elder law. Her graduate studies in Linguistics from the University of Utah was an interdisciplinary program that develops skills in communication, computer science, data analysis and organization, problem solving, and logical thinking that are critical to the functioning of the Souders Law Group. Prior to joining Souders Law Group, Julia worked as an independent consultant on a variety of linguistic and organizational projects. Julia has a B.A. in Biology from Utah State University, where she also worked for the environmental engineering lab as a chemist, and later worked as a chemist for a hazardous waste disposal company. Julia is a certified Notary Public in the State of Washington.
Erica Weaver joined the Souders Law Group in 2015 as a paralegal. She has an A.S. in Paralegal Studies from Valencia Community College in Orlando, graduating in 2006, and worked at several law firms in Central Florida, focused on litigation and other areas of civil practice. Erica is our primary litigation paralegal as well as the paralegal in charge of managing the case files, data, calendars, and coordinating with the courts. She and her husband moved to Oak Harbor in 2015, and her husband is in active duty service with the U.S. Navy on Whidbey Island.
